​Every two years the Board of Elections (BOE) becomes the most important County agency in terms of Polk County politics. It's where you register to vote, where candidates register to run, and it runs the elections themselves.

The Board of Elections is nonpartisan, but political at the same time. It consists of five members: currently three Democrats and two Republicans. The chair is selected from the same party as the current governor.

The Board of Elections have meetings that take place in-person in the first floor of the Womack Building and can also be attended by Zoom.  

The BOE can help with any issues or questions related to your voter registration and anything about your act of voting.  While our Polk NC Dems website (this website!) provide most of the registration and voting information you need, the BOE is a complete resource for Polk County and can answer your questions directly.  

The Director of Elections, Cliff Marr, oversees the county employees and poll workers who actually run the elections.
