Ways to Register
Online: Existing NC Division of Motor Vehicles customers may submit a voter application online.
By mail: Fill out the English N.C. Voter Registration Application (fillable PDF) or the Spanish N.C. Voter Registration Application (fillable PDF) and submit by mail OR drop off at Polk County Board of Elections (40 Courthouse St., Columbus, NC- The Womack Building

- 1st time registered voters and those changing parties need to mail in or drop-off actual signed form.
- If you are already registered and are just changing addresses you can scan and Email your form to the Polk County Board of Elections
- NC driver's license
- Other photo ID issued by government agency as long as it has your current name and address
- A copy of current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document showing the your name and address
- A current college/university photo identification card paired with proof of campus habitation

To register to vote in NC you must:

- Be a U.S. citizen
- Live in the county you are registering for at least 30 days prior to election date
- Be at least 18 years old by the date of the general election
16- and 17- year olds may preregister to vote and have your registration processed when you become eligible by age.
17-year olds may vote in a primary election if they will be 18 at the time of the general election.
